Pumpkin Pie Craft Idea for Toddlers and Preschoolers

If you need an easy Fall/Thanksgiving craft for your toddler or preschool, I’ve got you covered. This craft is perfect for little kids because it only requires a few materials and they get to rip paper! Ripping paper is not only fun, it helps work those fine motor skills in little hands so it’s very important. Plus, they’ll end up with the cutest Pumpkin Pie!

Let’s get into the craft!

Materials Needed

  • White paper plate
  • Orange construction paper (can be substituted with tissue paper)
  • Brown construction paper
  • Glue
  • Cotton balls
  • Scissors

How to Make a Paper Plate Pumpkin Pie

  1. Gather your materials and cover your workspace.
  2. Encourage your child to rip the orange construction paper into small pieces. Let them have fun with it!
  3. Cover the center of paper plate with a generous amount of glue and have your child start adding the ripped paper pieces.
  4. Continue step 3, layering the ripped papers until you’re satisfied with the thickness of the “pie”.
  5. Cut small strips out of the brown construction paper and let your child glue it over the edges of the plate. This is the top crust of the “pie”.
  6. Use scissors to cut off the excess of the brown paper around the edge of the plate.
  7. Finish off by gluing a couple cotton balls to the middle of the top as the “whipped cream”!
  8. Set aside to dry completely.

Isn’t this the cutest pumpkin pie?! I love how this turns out and how easy it is. It’s a great craft for parents to do at home with their kiddos or teachers to try at school. How great would this look displayed on a Thanksgiving bulletin board?!
