Disney Play Date Party – Lion Guard Theme

Earlier this month, Disney chose us to host a #NowMoreThanEver Disney Play Date Party. Of course we jumped at the chance and started planning right away!

To get us started, Disney sent us a huge box filled with goodies and party supplies. We lucked out with a Lion Guard theme since my boys love the show and The Lion King so much. Our party also coincided with the weekend when the new Lion King live-action remake debuted in theaters so it was perfect timing.

Planning the Play Date Party

First step to planning our party was gathering our supplies and decor. We were sent Lion Guard themed napkins, cups, plates, tablecloths, and other decorations all from JAKKS Pacific. I knew exactly how I’d set up our space with these items.

I used our kitchen table and turned it into our version of “pride land” complete with a candy-filled piñata and lots of treats!

To add some extra special touches, I included some other Disney themed snacks and toys I picked up from various stores. They really tied everything together!

One easy way to add party decor is to use your kids’ toys! I actually included my boys’ Simba and Nala plushies as well as some little Lion King action figures. It added to the theme and served as entertainment for the kids too.

Party Food & Treats

Since this was a play date I wanted to keep it simple. We ordered pizza for lunch but I went a little overboard with the treats. Can you blame me though? Dessert is funnest part of the meal!

Aside from the usual chips and dip, I set up cupcakes, cookies, and candy. However, the star of the show was our Popped Passion popcorn cake! It was delicious and the perfect mix of sweet and salty.

Play Date Fun and Entertainment

Being summer time, we chose to use our pool as the main entertainment. It was easy and kids always love going for a swim. The next big moment of fun was the piñata that we over-filled with a ton of candy.

If you want to recreate this party at home, I have some printables you can use as games. We didn’t get a chance to play these but they look great! I’m saving them for a rainy day when I make a little Disney magic for my kids.
