Wyndham Resort International Drive – Family Friendly Orlando Hotel
Sometimes all you need is a little family getaway to refresh and recharge. For Mother’s Day this year, I asked for one thing; family trip to Orlando. Luckily, we live close enough to pack up and drive there for the weekend so we did!
The wonderful folks at Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive invited me to visit with my family and I was so excited. We go to Orlando often but had never stayed there and knew we were in for a treat. I’ve put together a full review of the resort along with what we did for fun during our stay.

Family Friendly Travel
The number one thing I think about when traveling with with my family is whether a hotel is a good fit for all of us. Wyndham Resort International Drive is definitely family friendly with many options for accommodations. With everything from deluxe guestrooms to family suites, this resort is a perfect choice for families of all sizes.
Their newly renovated guest rooms include massaging showers, pillow top mattresses, mini fridges, and high speed internet among many other amenities. One of their family friendly options is the Family Bunk Room. These rooms include a separate alcove for kids with their own TV and bunk bed and plenty of space in the main area for mom and dad. Wyndham Orlando Resort is also pet friendly so you can bring along your furry family members too!
We were lucky to be put in an Executive Suite and it was great for our family. Although not the traditional Family Suite or Family Bunk Room, this suited us perfectly and we loved it. The Executive Suite is made up of a living room, dining room, and a bedroom.
As a family of four, we also enjoyed the kitchenette, balcony and two bathrooms. The kids loved hanging out in the living room watching movies with dad while I took a nap. It was heaven!
Having only one bed can be tricky but we made it work. The kids and I took over the super comfortable king sized bed while my husband used a roll-away. He says it was also comfortable and he enjoyed it.
I actually loved sharing the bedroom with the boys and having tons of space to just hang out in the suite to relax. It was a nice change from standard hotel rooms.
However, if you do need more beds for your family, I recommend checking out their Family Bunk Rooms. They are available with either a king bed or two doubles in addition to the bunk bed.
Wyndham Resort International Drive is made up of 22 acres of lush tropical landscaping, two outdoor pools, dining locations and so much more. We loved waking up and looking out our balcony in the mornings to see the views. The resort is covered with beautiful greenery and lagoons making for a picture perfect backdrop. For a while I actually forgot I was in Orlando for a bit because of the tropical vibe.
It was really nice to walk around, enjoy the space and relax as a family. The boys especially loved seeing all the little ducklings and mama ducks in the lagoons.
We loved exploring Wyndham Resort International Drive and taking in the ambiance. There are cushioned chairs and lots of places to sit and enjoy the day. You can even grab some delicious food and drinks at one of the on-site dining options. We had the chance to have a really great lunch at Gatorville Poolside Bar & Grill, a casual american restaurant located at the pool area.
The food was FANTASTIC and I even splurged and tried their beer flight! It was the best Mother’s Day lunch.
ICON Park Orlando
Wyndham Resort International Drive is located right in the heart of Orlando’s new entertainment district home to ICON Park. They call it a “walkable neighborhood” because you can easily access over 40 shops, restaurants and attractions on foot.
For me, it’s so important to stay at resort right in the middle of the action. Even when we chose to drive to places, it was such short distance we didn’t waste gas or time. This was a major plus for us!
We found ICON Park to be the perfect spot for anything from family friendly fun to date night. With so many things to see and do, it’s a great spot to spend a day exploring. Since it’s about 20 minutes away from the major theme parks (Universal & Disney), it’s another option for things to do if you don’t have a theme park ticket.
The Wheel at ICON Park
Thanks to our friends at Wyndham Resort, we got to check out one of ICON Park’s main attractions; The Wheel. Formerly known as the Orlando Eye, The Wheel is a 400 tall observation deck with stunning views of Central Florida. We were amazed at how much we could see from up there. My kids pointed out Epcot, Universal Studios, and even Kennedy Space Center when we were at the top!
Inside the pod (that’s what I’m calling it) there’s plenty of room to move around freely and get a great 360 degree view. You can also choose to sit for the duration of the ride which is about 23-25 minutes. My husband sat the whole time while the kids and I walked around and took a ton of selfies. The Wheel moves at less than 1mph so it’s easy to move around in there.
Right before we got on to ride The Wheel, we took some photos on a green screen and got to see them in the gift shop after our ride. We loved them so much we actually purchased them! It was about $30 for the package of prints and digital and it was totally worth it to me. Here are some of my favorite photos from that package.
My oldest’s face in these still makes me laugh so hard. He looks terrified (light blue shirt) and we weren’t even on the ride yet.
