To the Mom Struggling with Mental Illness
It’s Maternal Mental Health Week. This is such an important topic for me as someone who has Anxiety Disorder and suffered from severe PPD.
You are not a bad mom, you are not a bad person. You just need a little help.
I usually share my personal story but today I want to address you.
To the mom who feels less than, alone and scared I want to say that I see you. You hide from everyone and live in fear of your emotions. You dread being alone with your kids because you don’t know how you’ll handle it if something goes wrong.
You’re afraid to speak up and seem weak and you think you’re messing up every single day. You lose your cool over any little thing and scream at everyone only to feel like shit afterwards. You think you’re a bad mom and you don’t deserve love.
I see you. I know you and I am you.
Motherhood is hard and having a mental illness makes it ten times harder. It makes the days seem longer, the failures seem bigger and the bad seem worse.
But you’re strong mama. You’re stronger than you think and you WILL GET THROUGH THIS. You will not let this beat you because you are loved and needed.
Motherhood is hard and having a mental illness makes it ten times harder.
Don’t be afraid anymore. Speak up and ask for help. Actually, don’t speak, scream it until someone hears you. Continue to scream, kick and fight for yourself because you need it and you deserve it.
You are not a bad mom, you are not a bad person, you just need a little help.
I wish someone had said this to me years ago so I’m putting into the universe to reach a mom that needs it. Maternal Mental Health matters and we need to spread awareness every chance we get.
