I’ve been married almost 8 years and been a mom for 7 years and had never taken a girls trip, ever, until recently and now my life is changed!
Okay, so that’s a bit dramatic but really, I feel like a new person after a weekend away with my girlfriends. I realized how important it really is to take some time to just being with friends, laughing and having fun. It brought me back to being just me, pre-kids, pre-husband, letting go of responsibilities and letting loose for a little while.
Preparing for the Trip
My friends and I are Disney people so Epcot was a clear choice, especially with the Flower & Garden Festival going on it was perfect for trying yummy food & drinks. If you’re not into Disney this may not seem like a good choice but we love it there and it’s actually fun to visit with and without kids. Plus, out of all the Disney World parks, Epcot is the most geared towards adults with lots of entertainment and drinks! Also, we feel safe in Disney and wanted to be somewhere we didn’t need to worry about driving to and from the hotel. Since we were staying on Disney property this was so easy for us and made our trip very stress-free.
We wanted to stand out so we had custom ears made by a local shop, The Mouse Boutique Shop. The owner, Sujey, is so talented and makes amazing ears by hand. She really takes her time and her work is flawless! Each one of us got different ears representing a Disney princess and everywhere we walked people stopped us to ask about our ears. We definitely got lots of attention from our beautiful ears!
We also wanted to match and had fun themed shirts made by another local shop, Chica Bows. Since we were planning on “drinking around the world” our shirts read “Princess Drinking Squad” and had glittery silhouettes of some of our favorite princesses.
Our goal was to stick to the World Showcase going from country to country enjoying bits of food and drinks at each stop. We got to Epcot around 12:30pm and headed straight to Mexico Pavilion for some margaritas! The park was packed with loads of people all with the same game plan as us, drinking around the world. We loved the busy environment and it was so nice to not have to push a stroller around or worry about my kids running off. Most of the girls in the group are moms and I think we all enjoyed Epcot so much more sans kids. I mean, I love taking my boys to Disney but being able to just go with the flow without a whiny, tired, cranky kid was a nice welcomed change of pace!
My favorite part of the day was having lunch at Biergarten Restaurant. It’s buffet style dining with live entertainment and the perfect place for our loud group to enjoy. We sang songs and joined in on all the fun the restaurant has to offer. You can tell from the pictures below lots of laughs were had!
When we booked the trip I knew I had to contact the wonderful people from Sees The Day Photography to meet us at the park and take some beautiful pictures of our group. I wanted the girls to feel special and having a professional photographer snap some shots was such a treat! I made sure to play paparazzi the whole time but I also wanted to be in some of the photos and this was totally worth it.
Lesson Learned – Girls Trips are Essential
I didn’t know this before but taking a trip with the girls is essential! I’m a mom and a wife every second of my day and as much as I love my family, it can be emotionally and physically draining. I needed a break, even if it was just for a short weekend trip. These girls knew me before I was a wife & mother and I loved being just me with them for a little while.
Taking a girls trip isn’t just about taking time off, but it’s also about solidifying friendships and bonds. I may not talk to these ladies every day but we are friends for life and we needed this time together.
Just because we are married and have kids doesn’t mean we forgot how to have fun! Who else is going to wear matching shirts with you and walk around Disney singing “The Little Mermaid” soundtrack at the top of their lungs? Definitely not our husbands or boyfriends! Oh and girl talk? That’s the best part! I don’t know about you but I know there are certain topics of conversation reserved for just the girls and we dove into gossip and chit-chat like never before. It made me feel like we were back in college and I loved every minute of it!
We were already planning the next getaway before we made it back home!
After I got home I was physically tired because I’m not in my early 20’s anymore but I also felt like a new person. There’s something about being around other powerful, strong, successful women that is really special.
If you haven’t taken a trip with your girlfriends, go for it! I’ll always cherish the laughs, the inappropriate jokes, walking until our feet almost fell off, drinking around the world and having a complete blast with my girls. I can’t wait to do it again!
